Dennis all good points My only comment to this is that if the lever on the side of the trany is not in the correct position due to a worn or missadjusted throttle cable then the shifting will not happen when it should. The adjustment is above the spare tire see Bentley under fuel supply page 30.32 for more info on cable adjustment page 37.13 does not cover the the cable adjustment as apart of shifting adjustment I have pointed this out to Stan (Spankie) Walhfarth at Bentley and a mention of cable adjustment will be added to page 37.13 on the latest printing of the big green book due to go to press any day now. I hear the front cover will have a new look.

A have seen debris that got past past the filter keep the balls from seating. If ATF is getting into the final drive, the governor seal may be the cause. This can be replaced with the trans in place. Usually, poor up shifting is due to insufficient pressure in the system. A bad piston or internal seal can be the problem. The 2nd gear brake band piston seals are easily serviceable. The Bentley does detail pressure testing the trans to determine internal problems. An experienced tranny guy can also drop the valve body and air test the clutch pistons. > > Dennis >
