Sam,

You're an awesome sleuth, and you got it! It really is a good book. If anyone finds any punctuation errors or problems of grammar, word choice or other brainless stuff, blame me. If you want to learn more, you an go to www.paulinechen.com.

Sadly, you're right: We will all have to deal with this stuff sooner or later, and in the case of the may of us on the list who are in our 50's, it is going to be "sooner," as our parents reach the end of their lives. That's the case of my parents, anyway. As for myself, I plan to keep chugging along as long as the V'gon, another 50 years or so, even if I too need some spare parts. That's my wife's specialty after all!

Woody

Woody,

As long as you just tell us once, I think it is OK. I'll save you the trouble of a repeat post.

Best I can tell from looking at the NYT online, and matching yesterday's books which have only one by the publisher Knopf, and only one by a female author, you must be writing about:

FINAL EXAM: A Surgeon's Reflections on Mortality

By Pauline W. Chen

The review speaks highly of the book and Dr. Chen, calling it "a series of thoughtful, moving essays on the troubled relationship between modern medical practice and the emotional events surrounding death."

The review can be found at http://tinyurl.com/yaeckr

And if I am wrong, well, this looks like an interesting book anyway, and all of us will have to deal with doctors and someone's mortality at some point in the future.
