Subject: Timesert install - I'm stumped
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

Hey, ya'll.

I'm trying to install a Timesert threaded insert in my 2.1 oil drain. The drain bolt spins freely in both directions but won't loosen or tighten. I have tried levering with a pry bar through the Channelocks clamped tightly to the bolt head. I have tried wiggling the Channelocks to and fro while pulling down HARD and cannot get any purchase . I'm thinking there may already be a Timesert in the hole and, as it expands when being installed, I can't simply yank hard to get the bolt free. If it werer a Helicoil, it seems like it would pull through pretty easily or unthread the coil as I pulled down hard while turning. It does not seem to me that it would be so hard to pull a steel bolt through threads in an aluminum case either.

Any ideas, tips or experience with this situation?

Cheers,
