Tom,
There are 104,000 on the Vanagon. It was supposed to be rebuilt 7000 miles ago, but I do not have any documentation.
It might be ring related, but I need to do a leak down test. I just have too many thoughts flowing through my head as evident by my
options.

Jamie,
Fiorst, how many miles on the engine? Know any history?
Next, how do you know its just heads? Could be a piston/ring/cylinder problem instead. If it is just the one head, it would be
pretty easy to fix it and see where you are three months from now without spending a lot of cash.
If miles are high on the engine, then a rebuild might make some sense...but I would not do a rebuild it the problem is simple like a
single valve.
I'm no expert, but I thought a Tiico had a very different torque curve. If I was doing a gas conversion I would go with a Subaru.
Good luck,
Tom
