I had the pleasure of driving a rental Mercedes Sprinter van around Austria and Germany last summer. It may not be pretty, but it was definitely a functional vehicle to drive - kinda like the old VW Bus. We were able to cruise 80 to 90 MPH on the autobahn and still get better than 22 MPG with 7 people on board - room for 9, though. We saw 3 different rooflines. The one in the pictures shown here is the intermediate height - too high to get into parking structures. As I said it was functional or utilitarian - no power windows, no DVD players, a minimal radio, and a bit loud. A little soundproofing would help immensely. This is a commercial vehicle and too large to qualify as a minivan, but I think it's a better direction than some of the VW concept vans I saw last year. Reduce the overall size, lower the roofline, and I might be interested. My 2 euro cents worth. Oldkayaker |
