I think most people reacted not so much that he expressed his experiences but rather the way in which he did so. My main concern with his report is that he clearly has no idea what he is talking about with regard to the very basics of the engine and thus can draw no valid conclusions about the failures.

a. main seals--- one at each end of crankshaft to keep engine oil inside the case

b. head gaskets---one on each side of the engine to keep coolant inside the water jackets

The rubber head gaskets have no contact with oil and can't leak oil. When the engine is overheated they can fail and leak coolant, sure.

In other words, the initial problems with oil leaks are not related to the need to replace the head gaskets after the meltdown which was clearly NOT the engine builder's fault.
