Every once in a while I get a chance to be at the top of the list. Well I guess it is my turn again. I am 72 and a half years old, maybe making me the oldest list member. I may also have the distinction of having owned the most VW cars. My first was a '57 Beetle convertible which I bought in 1959 fo $1195, about half the price of a new one at that time. Since then I have owned many, including Golfs, a GTI, two bread loaf Westys, and two Vanagon GLs which includes my '91 GL. Due to sentimental history, I courted my wife in the '57, I have made it a practice to always own at least one VW. I have also owned numerous memorable other vehicles, my favorite being a '49 Chrysler Windsor convertible that I sold for, not always too smart, $150.00 ! I've owned twelve British cars, mostly Triumphs with an occasional MG or Healey, three Rambler Americans, two Mercedes, one BMW, several Audi, including my present Quattro, five Saabs, which included two three cylinder two strokes, neat and smooth as can be, numerous Ford or Chevy products, two Cadillacs and one Ford pick up. When I lived in England I owned a Standard Pennant, look that one up ! Needless to say both my mechanic and my insurance agent smile broadly when they see me drive up.

I must add that I enjoy reading posts to the list but do very little of the mechanical work myself except for the occasional oil change. The information is invaluable and allows me to sound knowledgeable when a repair is in order. Nothing makes a mechanic, excuse me, an auto technician, happier than the customer who starts by saying, " it is making a funny sound " ( there stands my boat payment ! )

O.K. Joy, now it is your turn. SAM
