Why are you all so negative about Dan Roberts reporting this to the list? I think he wrote a perfectly fair account of what happened. And he didnt just come with this to the list, but wrote this up when rebuilder quality was discussed and about 20 people said boston bob is great. I dont think its fair to say he has bad intentions. That we all diagnose it as drivers error may be correct. but how shall he know? he went to a mechanic that had experience with volkswagens and was told there is glue in the seals and the alternator belt failure did not hurt the engine. he said boston bob did not respond to his problems and requests. If I would be in his situation at this point and with this information I would be pretty pissed at Boston Bob. Even if it turns out that it is not his fault, I would expect to be replied to, and explained why this happened. As a customer, I would also appreciate if my rebuilder is concerned enough about this to call the mechanic who diagnosed the failure and discuss it with him. What do you do as a customer when your engine fails, the mechanic who diagnoses it says bad rebuild, the rebuilder doesnt answer you, and you had problems with the rebuild quality before (oil leaks)? I definetely think sending a writeup of the events to this list and advising listmembers "to use caution" when buying from boston bob is an ok and good thing to do. This way he will get opinions from people not involed and will probably conclude that the engine failure was indeed drivers error, but that he is still unhappy about the rebuilt quality in terms of the oil leaks and the after sales support he got.
