Reading this list, I must be third in line for the title of "oldest List
Member", being age 68.
I can't match you on vehicle ownership. My first VW was a 63 beetle
given me by my Mother as a wedding present. Then there was a ragtop
beetle - I can't remember the year any more - and then a 69 beetle. Then
came a 68 Transporter, and then a '71 camper. Don't what the thing was.
Had a fiberglass high top on it though. It was factory. Then came my
first Vanagon - and 85 GL, and later an 88 GL. I still have it and use
it. Most recently I added a second 88 GL as a project vehicle.
I have owned others - first car was a 1953 Studebaker Commander. Sweet!
There were three Volvos, two pickup trucks, Jeep Cherokee widetrac, and
a Jeep Grand Wagoneer LTD - wide track.
The sweetest of all was a sports car I owned. - a powder blue 1972
Jaguar XKE Convertible, V-12 engine, Quad carbs, bumps on the hood.
Closest thing in the world to flying a fighter plane --- on the ground!
Don't know why I never got ticketed in that thing. Had a few favorite
interstate and expressway interchanges where I would give her a workout.
Fabulous performance. Would still have that car, but the economy went
sour in the late 70's and I had to let it go. Sure made me sad.. But it
was fun while I had it.
