I'm soon to be 57. I can't believe that and neither can anyone else who knows me. Other than my wife, I spend most of my time with an eight year old, so I guess that explains some of that.

I have owned too many VWs to remember and count, but my first was a 59 I owned in 66 and my first bus was a 59 I owned in 1970. It was a rusted out piece of crap but I was intrigued with the form factor and soon acquired a like-new 67, soon followed by a like-new 69. I drove that for many years, and when I saw my red Vanagon at the dealer's in 1990 I knew I had to have it, and still do.

Other than VWs, I've owned four Renault Dauphines, a Simca Aeronde, two Corvairs, a Fiat 850 Spider, a Porsche 911, Two Austin Healy Sprites, an MGB, a TR4, an MGA, and a couple of Mazdas and an Accord. I never licensed the Corvairs, just repaired and sold them as a kid, so I've never really driven an American car.

I currently drive the 90 Vanagon and the 83 diesel westy, the two best cars I ever owned with the possible exception of the 69 bus.

Jim
