GoWesty's Warranty Policy is here: --------------------------------------------------- http://www.gowesty.com/view_page.php?name=engine_warranty

Looks a bit more stringent than it used to be in the past:

I run *only* 91 octane in mine: I carry octane booster as you can't always find 91 octane.

Calculate the price differential for 91 versus 85/87 over a year, it's really not that much. You'll dump more money into the Vanagon with other regular maint items. (at least I have with my 'Money Pit' (er uh Syncro))

Hard decision.. for 2.1, East Coast, and a DIY or local install Bob's reputation is unequaled. For something with higher performance, I'd use GoWesty and have them install it.

I like having the extra power in the Syncro, so for me the higher perf. is worth it.

I've only had (in the first couple of years) some issues with the stupid valve adj. screws/tappet deals? Worked with a local shop here to find some extras replacements.

GW fully reimbursed me for the time/expense in chasing it down, also sent me some extra valve cover gaskets and some extra screws if I had to do more of them myself. Doug here at Doug's Bugs and Bunnies (former wrench at Chapman) said that it's a common issue (bad batches) and a PITA.

Wouldn't call that a catastrophic failure at all, and it was fully supported/covered. If their policies have changed, then I'd take it up with them on this.

Only relaying my actual experiences here, YMMV

My 2000 Jeep GC leaks way more than my Vanagon (which doesnt :-) at all.. and that is how it should be!)

Cheers,

-tim
