When I was living in base housing at Point Mugu, CA, I actually had a tree rat living atop my engine (at that time an '86 2WD). At some point I noticed the litter on the indented parts of the engine, mostly fruit and leaves from the banyan-like trees we had on the street, and was perplexed until I saw the rat hop off one day when my wife started the van. I always wondered if he went for rides sometimes because I only saw him leave the car that one time. It was quite a pile of litter so I know the rat was there for awhile.
