RE: Mechanics Lien At least in the Soviet of Washington a repair shop can refuse to release the vehicle until payment is made. And if the customer writes a check, takes the car and goes to the bank and immediately stops payment that can be prosecuted as fraud, the customer not acting in good faith. Friend of mine ended up defending herself against check fraud charges in such a case some years ago.
