Sledge hammer (& goggles). Hell, if a broken connecting rod can shred the case, a 10lb.+ sledge should do the job.

Got any suggestions on how to break it up? We used a really neat hatchet last year, worked fine. Pretty sure we don't want to do any cutting without some serious precautions.
