Hey List,

Thanks for the good content lately, it has made for good lurking.

I am 29 and grew up with a 74 camper that my parents drove. I started buying, driving and tinkering with them myself at 13 or 14. I had fun trying to remember all of the old vws that I have played with. Most of them are:

82 westy's 67 westy 74 kombi camper 59 beetle 66 beetle 64 beetle 74 beetle 70 beetle 73 westy 70 passenger van 73 westy 79 westy 73 passenger van 67 beetle

As a background to how I got into vws the bug really bit at the island on the MS river where we spent most weekends when I was younger. There were no paved roads, and most of the vehicles over there were willy's jeeps with a few land rovers, land cruisers, broncos and a few old beetles tucked away in a shed. I was taken with my cj3a but one of the old guys gifted me a 70 beetle with a seized engine with the challenge the he bet I couldn't get it running. After weeks of filling the jugs with liquid wrench and twisting on the crank I got it going and it ran pretty well even with a custom carb gasket and a roof mounted fuel tank (no fuel pump). The beetle had fairly large grip spur mudders on the back and very little of it's sheet metal and would pretty much skip across the mud holes.

It sure has been fun and at this rate will be until I grow "old".

Jonathan Poole
