They don't work. I been down that road, asked the question.

All those gauges do is measure gas pressure. As long as there is liquid propane in the bottle, the gas pressure in the bottle is constant. It varies with temperature, but if the temp is held constant, a full bottle and one that has a 1/2 cup of propane in it will maintain the same gas pressure in the bottle.

Once the last of the liquid evaporates off the bottom of the bottle, the pressure in the tank will decrease. And the needle on the gauge will drop out of the green, all sudden-like, pretty much at the same time that your stove goes cold.
