Crocus cloth works well if the contacts are visibly corroded. For the big grounds, you want to have clean metal, but also need to protect it from rust - two opposing goals.

Anytime I suspect contact problems, I clean the contacts well and use some Caig DeoxIT. ( http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?&DID=7&WebPage_ID=116&CFID=232779&CFTOKEN=90256241 ).

Good stuff.

I also cover weather-exposed connections with lithium grease, dielectric grease, or synthetic (Mobil1) grease, depending on what's handy.
