Ben,

I've got the timing set at 7.5* BTDC and have set the idle using the dashboard tach with the idle stabilizer disconnected. Soon as I have time, though, I am going to reset it to see if that makes a difference.

By stumbling, I mean erratic. Something like "tituber" in French though you don't use that for cars, unless they're drunk. The idle doesn't hunt, it's just kind of uneven.

Curious thing is that it idles great in open loop mode (and yes, I've tested the O2 sensor, works fine, though I don't know about the circuit.)

To get back to the original point, I sure am glad I'm not paying a mechanic to do this. I just don't believe there's any quick and easy way to sleuth these kind of problems out, no matter how skilled the mechanic is.

Someone sent a link where a stumbling idle was cured by removing the (apparently good) cat and reconnecting the muffler. How long would it take a mechanic, or anyone else, to find that one? Kind of like the monkeys with the typewriters, only you're paying $90 an hour.

Geza
