For what it is worth, my daily driver is a '91 Carat, original 2.1L engine,
automatic tranny -- 183,000+ miles now.
I drive, daily, 70+ MPH about 50-75 miles, highway/turnpike.
Now, I do live in FL, flat as a rock, never too cold, but we do get warm with
high humidity, so my 2nd stage FAN engages in the summer heat when the A/C is
engaged. I figure I am doing 300+ miles/week at this point in time. I do
have weeks when I'm out of town or at a show, etc, but you get the point.
At around 70MPH, my TACH tells me the engine is making ~4100RPM, for the past
7 months this has been the norm of activity for my Ziegelstein. My water temp
gauge sits in the lower 1/3 of the RED LED, rising to the top 1/3 of the RED
LED, stage 1 FAN will engage when in stop-n-go traffic.
So, I understand the manual tranny crowd gets to run a bit lower on the RPM
count for the same speed, guess that means the ol' WBX ain't always as bad as
we all seem to read here now and again. Still, I'm really hoping to get my
hands on a turn-key Vanaru.com kit!! :-)
