I'm not so good at gauging RV lengths. <br> <br> Motorhomes or motorcoaches over 40 feet are prohibited on Highway 1 between Carmel and San Simeon (<a class="moz-txt-link-freetext" href="http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/traffops/trucks/bus-mh/busmap-d05.pdf">http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/traffops/trucks/bus-mh/busmap-d05.pdf</a>), and 45 feet is the maximum motorhome and motorcoach (bus) length allowed in California. However, "If you are towing a vehicle, the maximum vehicle combination length allowed in California is 65 feet." So maybe I was seeing bulky clattering diesel-powered pickups towing giant trailers. 65-footers. Think about it. Can you imagine the tininess of the dog that would go with such a beast? <br> <pre class="moz-signature" cols="72">-- Mike "Rocket J Squirrel" Elliott 71 Type 2: the Wonderbus 84 Westfalia: Mellow Yellow ("The Electrical Banana") 74 Utility Trailer. But Grey Whales are neat.

But from Friday morning on through Sunday, the Westies thinned out, while the giant RVs and trailers hauled by bulky pickup trucks with clattering Diesel engines took over. Every one seemed to have a little yappy dog.*

From my campsite at Kirk Creek campground, which overlooks the Pacific ocean, I watched the Gray Whales migrating south. They get as large as 52 feet long. Turning around, I could see the motorcoaches trundling north and south on the highway. Saw quite a few 52-footers there, too.
