Elliot, You are making a major mistake, with:

"Permatex Ultra Copper RTV sealant"

What the kit supplies, is special just for these heads. I'm speaking from experience here with exactly the same stuff your quoting. Throw that ultra copper stuff away. It has no purpose in or on a vanagon. I did 6 of these last year, and I'm doing another now. I've done several over the last 10 years. So far all are well. Do you have a bentley? Keep things extremely clean.

Joe, I've got to disagree with you. I've used that Loctite Ultra Copper exclusively for over eight years on all my VW boxer engine rebuilds. Never ever had a problem and none of those engines have ever leaked a drop of coolant. I have just recently started using Loctite's The Right Stuff and so far it works better. The sealant that's in the gasket sets is garbage as far as I'm concerned. That's the stuff that let the gaskets leak in the first place. It did not work.

Cheers,
