<Or an alarm that alerted you wihout alerting everyone else within a two-mile radius?>

I had one of those back in the 80's. Instead of a siren alarm, it had a pager that would beep. A friend also bought the same alarm for his Camaro Z-28, but since he lived in a high rise apartment building, his was prone to false signals. One night around 11:30 his started beeping-he thought about ignoring it, but went down to the garage to find both doors open, with legs sticking out of the car on both sides-they were trying to get the radio/cassette deck out. He also took with him a 12 gauge shotgun, which he held on the 2 guys until another resident called the police. As is typical in our twisted world, the first cop to arrive was going to charge my friend with some BS charge for the shotgun and let the 2 thieves go. Luckily for him, a few minutes later an older more experienced cop showed up, arrested the thieves and let my friend go. One guy had the radio knobs in his pocket, and both denied they were trying to steal the radio. One got probation and the other got off free because he claimed in court that it was the other guys idea and he had no idea that the other guy was going to steal the radio! Sad part, too, was that a few months later his car was hit again, and this time the thieves were not so slow-they took what must have been a huge crowbar and literally pried the dash out to get the radio, and did the same to the rear deck to get the speakers (all Alpine, BTW). the damage to the car was over $3,000.00.
