Ummm...yes it can. There were at least six imported in 1984, one of which I sold a few months ago. I posted it here with little interest. PHHHTTTT to those of you that overlooked it then, ya coulda had a rare van for $7K!

In addition, any Vanagon can be imported through a registered importer. Or sometimes without, depends on your connections and how well worded your requests and convincing stories to the folks in charge. See that 1990 Syncro 16" Reimo high-roof on my website (www.westyventures.com)? ZERO DOT, ZERO Customs, fully US-legalized and titled in Maryland.
