Subject: How do you re-key steering lock cylinder?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

Hello Folks,

I'm looking to re-key my van. I've got the lock cylinder out. I am looking at the new replacement lock cylinder. I need to know how to take the wafers out so I can re-key to match my old key.

I don't see any pin on the cylinder. I see this section with a black strip which looks like a way to get it apart. I'm hoping some of you have dismantled one and give me some tips before I destroy the cylinder in the attempt.

Please do not say, "take it to your locksmith". =) I quite familiar with that process already. I would like to be able to do this myself. I've re-keyed Vanagon doors.

TIA,

BenT
