Subject: Stealth/urban camping tips-some vanagon content

Joy's post on stealth camping reminds me of the genesis of my love affair with Westfalias. My best friend in college graduated and took a job in Northern Va. as an accountant. He wasn't sure if would like the job or the area and apartment rent was very expensive. He bought a really sweet 80 AC Westy and found a farmer that let him park it in his field for $20.00/month. He would get up each morning and pack up his home then drive to the local YMCA to shower and don his work clothes. He never had to commit to a 12 month lease and saved gobs of money. After deciding that he hated accounting and his accounting degree he moved back to SW Va. and went back to school to get a second degree in Enviromental Studies (never found any gainful employment though and ended opening his own painting company). I thought that this was a great idea and decided that I had to have one of these amazing vehicles. I quit smoking cigarettes but just can't kick the Vanagon habit I've had now for 18 years!
