I have a really hell-for-stout receiver hitch designed and built by Dennis Haynes on our list here. I am sufficiently happy with it that I plan to get another soon for my second van. It mounts solidly to the frame with three big bolts on either side. To install (1) rear bumper is removed, (2) the rear mounts are removed. (3) the rear bumper is trimmed to fit the receiver hitch (4) the bumper is mounted to the the receiver hitch. (5) the bumper/hitch assembly is mounted to the van.

When ordering specify whether you have a metal or a plastic bumper. Makes a difference.

Easy as that. It 's design is nicely done and the construction well executed. Dennis ships them painted with a good quality paint, but for the effort , I would order un-painted, and paint it yourself with an epoxy paint or have it powder coated. Then you should never have to deal with an ugly old rusted up receiver hitch ever again.
