So it is my fourth cold season full-timing in the van and this year I
decided not to drain the tank and switch over to using the clumsy water
bottle.  I was worried that the freezing might split the lines or break
something or other but have found that the pipes thaw out most afternoons
and that the tap doesn't fully freeze until it has been colder than the
upper twenties (all temps mentioned are Fahrenheit and inside the van) for a
few hours or more.  If it only gets down to  30 or so then the water will
work in the morning and is especially effective at waking one up.  The
swivel knob on the faucet will freeze and could be easy to break when trying
to turn it on with chilled and clumsy hands.  Also I would probably drain
the tank so that it wouldn't split if sub zero temps were on the way but so
far it hasn't even dropped into the single digits here in Western North
Carolina.

Anyhow,, I don't recall this being mentioned in the past few years of list
lurking that I have done..
