I don't know anything about Chevron products but up here in Western Canada Chryslers and Shell didn't get along for a while, What ever was in Shell fuel ate away at fuel gauge sending units causing them to behave erratically as in bouncing from accurate to empty over and over every few seconds. Each cycle was accompanied by the low fuel warning bong. It could drive you crazy. I had mine replaced under warranty and stopped using Shell gas. Seem to remember a class action suit against Shell. Didn't have a Vanagon then but I still don't use Shell products.
