Hi Florian, The only problem with that layout is getting in and out of the vehicle. Climbing in or out over the engine or front wheels couldn't be very convenient in the long term. If I was building one, (I have thought about it) I would hinge the passenger side wall from the top and open it upwards to form an awning. Have the lower half hinge downwards to form a staircase for easier entry. This would cut down on the sleeping space, but it would make up for it by adding a great deal more utility to the design. The original design specifies a baywindow as the base platform but I can't see why a vanagon couldn't be substituted with some rework.
