I've heard that sentiment from a lot of ppl... on the other hand, I've got a '78 Chevy, an '83 Chevy and my '87 Vanagon and they all pass smog, and they do that more than anything else by being within operating specs, which is where they should be anyway. This is in Cali, btw. Basically if the thing is running the way it was designed you shouldn't have a problem. Seems like there was a long thread on this maybe a year ago or a little less.
