If I was going to 'look' for a list of the tools to carry I'd go to "The Idiot's Guide". Muir had a well thought out list of tools for the VW.

I got tired of having to go to my Vanagon to get the metric wrench I needed in the garage for something I was doing so I bought a set of metric wrenches just to keep in the van. I made sure it came with a 10, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19. I also bought a cheap digital multi-meter to keep in the tool bag. The next time I think about it I'll get some more vice-grips for it too. I really don't want to forget to mention the 19 mm deep socket & breaker bar that always live under the seat in case I want to change a tire.

With a '91 Subaru 2.2 in an '87 Vanagon in western Washington. Subies like 12mm so I made sure there was one of those too when I bought the wrench set.
