so your engine works better with known working points dist. but still runs like crap?

Are the high tension leads in the correct places? If so......

Although far fetched, and shouldn't have happened, is it possible the drive gear for distributor is out by a tooth or two? I can't imagine a scenario where it would jump ahead/behind simply because you swapped distributors but.......

To check, (From Bentley)

Distributor drive installing:

set crank toTDC on cylinder #1. Install drive shaft so that offset slot is at an angle of about 12 deg. to engine centerline (small segment to coil side.)

IMHO, if new distributor is made for the 2L AC, then you shouldn't be required to make alterations so it will work.

Cheers,

Neil.
