I've said it before (to the disdain of some VW purists on the list) and I'll say it again--

My mother-in-law sold me a '93 Corolla with 80k miles on it three years ago. Automatic, A/C, good stereo, new tires, great gas mileage. All the thing does is run. No problems whatsoever.

It's great to have a third car around for when the Vanagon is being worked on.

It's great for when my wife's Passat 4Motion Wagon is in the shop, which is CONSTANTLY. I have the beginnings of a seething and furious dislike for that damned thing...

Not having to schedule downtime for one of the cars for fear of being shorthanded carwise is a great thing.

I say you find a cheapo japanese appliance for just such occasions.
