My local mechanic hit a deer during a test drive to check out my 91 Vanagon GL prior to a long trip. His insurance company didn't really have much experience with the Vanagon, so they went on-line to determine the "Real Value. " They came up with a figure of $7,000 and wrote a check for $3,000. The minor bodywork is complete and now it's being painted. Hope this helps. My independent insurance agent suggested I get van appraised by recognized car appraiser. Appraiser put $6000 value on van and insurance company accepted that value.
