Can you volks recommend the best way to troubleshoot this plumbing problem?:
When I turn on the tank side of the OEM faucet, I can hear the pump
whirring, and even though the tank is full with water (visual chk and LED panel
green), it will take a few minutes and then only a small amount of water comes
out. My thought is that I need a snake to check the water lines; but I also
noticed that water is running out from the bottom of the side panel where the
inlets are.
Not sure where to start looking.
LouiZe, the leak and resulting low pressure is due to the line from the
faucet to the city water port leaking at the connection to the port. If you
remove the four screws that hold the city water port to the side of the van you
will see the problem. Usually what happens is the plastic housing where the
brass fitting at the end of the hose from the faucet ends has cracked the
plastic where is screws in to the port housing. The repair is to replace the
city water outlet, try to seal the crack and put a hose clamp around the cracked
area, remove the hose and brass fitting and put a threaded plug into the end
of the brass fitting or some other method you may come up with. That city
water feed hose is always pressurized when you turn on the pump to get water
from the holding tank. It does not come out of the city water port as there
is a check valve in the city water port. But when the brass fitting cracks
the plastic housing it leaks as this is before the check valve. Now, all that
said, this is one of the many reasons that side of the van rusts from the
inside out as that water that is running in there has no natural way out so will
stay in there on the floor channel behind the cabinets and start the rusting
that we so often see on the camper side of the Westys. So you need to get
in there to clean up the mess. The easiest way to do that is to remove the
fridge. See my _VW Vanagon Westfalia Dometic Fridge Maintenace_
(http://members.aol.com/Fkc43/fridge.htm) webpage for more details on this operation. Hope
this helps and your not too, too depressed about the good news !
