Subject: Re: Removing window seals
Comments: To: Gary Bawden <goldfieldgary@YAHOO.COM>

Insert blade/cutter knife (long blade style cutter works good) BETWEEN GLASS AND SEAL parallel to glass, go around windows as deep as you can, a few time if needed, the tip of blade will touch metal (around windows), the seal is now split in half, just pull window out with the rest of seal stick to it, very easy, it will barely hold there by itself.

Removing those is a joke (scraping the seal!), 20 min for all windows, now, putting them back is another story. Not me...no, i have tried 3 windows guys: http://www.benplace.com/87syncro/87bleu90.jpg

This guys was NO good with those kind of seal, he took as long as 80min for the back windows, blaming the quality of the seal... bla bla, i tried another one, worse, left the shop mad at me (that is why i work alone...i'm bad to work with)! i finished the job myself... never again! the third that came.... 90sec (not minute) for the front windows, no help, no suction cup.... perfect fit.

The most dificult one are the side one (sliding door/camper), with a couple of friend, a rope, a few beers and 2 pizza... you should be ok.

Ben ps.: i'm removing mine today, if you need pictures, p-mail me!

----------------------------------------------------------------------- A couple of weeks ago there was a discussion about removing windows - - Robert Keezer said he kicks them out. Any tips on this? I need to remove the rearmost window on the passenger side of the '82 and do the POR-15 thing, then put it back in with a new seal (already in hand). I assume I need to cut the old seal first with a razor, and have someone handy to catch the glass when I kick it out. Is it better to do this barefooted or with boots on (if I wear the boots, I will at least take all the bits of gravel out of the treads!)?

Gary (who is sometimes puzzled over seemingly simple things, but who doesn't want to have to buy a new piece of glass)
