Sam, Somewhere, someone confused things. Both those filters from Mann/Mahle have the anti drain back valves. The difference is the vanagon requires a bypass valve in the filter. The Golf/Jetta engines have the bypass valves in the oil filter mounts. The bypass though is only needed if the filter is becoming restricted or if the oil is too viscous to flow through it. Most after market suppliers use the same number for both applications as it does not matter if there is an extra bypass valve in the filter.
