Hey, it's the 'S' of 'B & S' here, and she'll probably shoot me dead if she discovers me using her account, but I'm not subscribed here.

Forgive me for being under-edumacated, but my understanding is that the strut thingies are simply 'dampers' , a bit like the shocks on your van, that stop rapid accelerations and decelerations.

If that's the case, (and I'm absolutely not certain that it is) how in heck would a strut help you *lift* the pop-top?

I'd guess that to do that, you'd need stronger springs at the hinge, some mechanical lifting device (like a skyhook and pulley), or the struts should have some extending force, such as an internal spring?

I guess that there *is* an advantage in B not being able to lift the darn thing - it means that she *has* to have me along when she goes camping <grin>
