i use a zymol rubber conditioner.
very good results.
much more expensive than wd and doesn't make a mess.
wd drips and runs black down the side of the van if not careful.
my body guy has worned me to not use wd on rubber, it actually destroys it over the long haul.

The references to WD40, etc., made me think twice as well.

What about powdered graphite?
