Subject: Panel section, final pictures
I have put another 20 pic on this section, it's show the... final touch on
those panels (botom page)... yea, a lot of fine sanding, i almost burned
that van today :-))) i was so tired of sanding... cleaning, sanding again...
anyway, i'm happy with my final work, it's basicaly prefect... for now, but
it's a pain to shoot the inside and outside at the same time.. i had to put
the paint shop fan on the high speed level (because this is a "building"
primer, it's thick but it make a lot of dust), and that is not always good,
that fan can suck to much paint/primer outside the room...
Red this weekend... i was not really sure how to do that! remove door or
not, inside first ans outside after. We learn each day, i think i took the
best decision. The doors will be done afterward and were remove, so the "in
between" section (outside/inside) will be perfect, but, it's a pain to do
the roof first, inside center second, left and right inside, floor and
outside. Clear coat will be more dificult. The floor will be done last.
Last thing, i have filled, welded the upper/lower front and right seam, i
had to put new metal under the windows seal, that panel (front upper) was
replaced in the van lifetime with a OEM VW panel (sticker inside), but was
deeply rusted anyway, sorry, i have no picture of that rust, 18 holes... i
have also no pictures of the work detail, i was to mad when i started
grinding, sanding and found all that rust/holes! But it's gone now... for a
long time.
Paint:
2.5 gallons at 200$ each + reducer
2 gallons of clearcoat at 150$ each + cat + reducer
1.5 gallons of primer at 100$ each + cat + reducer
150$ of sandpaper
200 or different stuff (putty, microfiber...)
Total: i don't want to know!
Still, for under 15K (cost price), this van will be a dream! your price...
he he he, 25K
Anyway:

A tired Ben.
ps.: i'm now at 160 or so hours, is it worted? for an old 85 lady? well, i
learn a lot, and that is very interesting. This 85 Westy will be quite nice
when done... and unique.
