Subject: Fire damage - what to look for?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

A friend just told me about a 86 Wolfy that had an engine fire and the owner just wants to get rid of it. He says that the wiring and plastic fittings on the engine melted, but a his mechanic thought it was OK enough to put a new engine in and gave him a quote.

Here's the question: I'm going to go look at it but what should I look for as far as fire damage? If all the paint's still there, is there any potential problems to think of? I've seen the van before at campouts and it was nice and clean so I'd prefer to get it back on the road instead of parting it (although I *could* use that Wolfy interior...)

thoughts?

john
