Hi John, There were a couple of aftermarket hightop camper manufacturers, including Safare, and Adventurewagen. These tops were made from fibreglass. http://www.type2.com/library/camper/adventur.htm If the sliding door goes all the way up into a steel roof hightop, it's a genuine VW Factory hightop. These usually originated as military or commercial vehicles, but it's certainly possible that one might have since been camperized.
