Subject: rear headrest installation

We did this mod a few years ago on another van. At the time, my daughter was smaller so it worked great. Now, I don't know if I'd do it because she is too tall for a headrest - even fully extended - on the camper seatback. Have an adult sit on the back seat and you'll see what I mean... the back is really too low.

My memory says I removed the top half of the seat from the van - its an east couple of bolts down at the bottom. Unscrew the rear fabric screws/gromets that hold the fabric to the seat back. I think it partiallly velcro's. You can peal the cushon off carefully and expose the plywood back. I bought the rear seat back from a regular vanagon at the junk yard. The fabric was in good condition and it had 3 headrests. I opened the seat back up and took out the six sleeve mechanisms that hold the headrest in place. Then using "U" bolts, bolted those onto the plywood back with locking washers and nuts. I used the plastic covers on top of the sleeves but on the outside of the fabric. Then reinstalled the upholstery cover in reverse. I took some pictures... don't know if I can find them, but if you get serious let me know and I'll try to dig them up.

It all worked really slick. But on this van I want to design something like a dog screen behind the seat celing to floor... that will attach/lock to the celing and the floor and hold back gear in the back, but can be removed easily upon arrival. Attach some pads for the three heads to that. In this way we can load more in the back of the van and have the headrest safety too. Just not there yet. Madeline
