Dennis, Sorry to relate everything to airplanes, but that is where my mechanical origins come from........... for an engine that sits at an odd angle for a long period of time, would not a hydraulic lock be a likelyhood, in which case if suspected it would be wise to pull the plugs and turn the engine over by hand several times to be sure the internals are free, re-install the plugs and only then fire it up? Might bend a rod or damage the crank otherwise. Regards, John Rodgers 88 GAL Driver. Dennis Haynes wrote: > Is the van parked on a hill or tilted to one side? Oil my be puddling in the bottom of the cylinders. Maybe the valve guides and letting oil drip down. If it clears and there are no other problems or excessive oil consumption, don't worry too much. > > Dennis > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Michael Elliott > Date: Friday, February 16, 2007 11:00 pm > Subject: 1.9L exhaust smoke after sitting for 30 days > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > > >> Getting Mellow Yellow ready for a trip to the desert, hopefully >> to catch >> some spring showers.
