Watched a Discovery Channel presentation on auto technology and tire technology. A new combo tire/wheel is coming down the pike. More metal, less rubber. In fact, the only rubber in the tire is the tread itself which is about 1 to 1-1/2 inches thick. . No sidewalls - they are part of the wheel. . When you wear out the tread piece, just replace the tread on the wheel. Reduces waste by way of discarding tires. These new ones are recyclable. Tires are 50% charcoal. At that level, the tire loses its stretch qualities. Addition of nano-technology increases stretch. Amazing stuff that is coming. John Rodgers 88 GL Driver |
