Dan,
At least the List doesn't function like an airplane with negative
stabilization. Bump the controls and a phugoid motion sets in = the nose
goes up, then down, then up, then down, and each time it pitches it gets
more violent until it is completely out of control and crashes.
The Vanagon list is more like positive stabilization. It gets a bump
with a weird or off topic subject, and the phugoids begin, first this
way, then that way, but given a little time, like the positive
stabilized airplane, it moves towards stability. - one sees that the
thread begins to drive back towards the theme of the List - Vanagons! I
have no trouble with this. I find all these purterbations both
interesting, informative, and in many cases things I might want to act
on. And in some cases just to be different! Without the stimulus of all
these little extraneous things added to the salad, simple. pure,
unadulterated Vanagon might get to be a bit much. Sort of like eating
anchovies. I love'm on my pizza - but a whole can full all at once with
nothing else?? To much.
If you need more Vanagon anchovies and less of the other fluff and stuff
- hit the delete key - and enjoy your anchovies!
Regards,
John Rodgers

I don't read this list to monitor the daily goings-on in the world, i.e.: Bill gates, monopolies, buy-outs and such. Why is it unreasonable of me to not want to sift through such posts to share actual vanagon information with others? Two factions? Maybe the "faction" of this group that wants to converse about news issues and such and can't at least wait until Fri. or tag their post as off topic should start there own group and moderate the way they like.

It appears there are two factions here - those who want posts only re: mechanical, parts, etc. type posts and then there are those who use this list for those reasons as well as an online community of sorts.
