Richard,

You concluded your post about two battery 911's with the sentence: "Of course, 'parallel' means that--no relays, no isolators, etc."

That means that the experiences with the 911's aren't particularly relevant to what will happen with a relay in place like in the Vanagons in the discussion.

The Vanagon batteries aren't connected except when they are being charged by the alternator, rather than connected at all times as in the 911.
