The Dometic/A&E awnings use this system in an abbreviated manner for
mounting on vans like the Vanagon.  Their brackets that attach to the rain
gutters have a short section of the rail on them and the matching male
portion of the rail system on the awning casing. After mounting the brackets
you slide the awning into position and then secure it with bolts through the
back of the awning casing and through the brackets.  I did this when
mounting an A&E 2500 several years ago.  The Fiamma system is easier, no
rails, a lip at the top of the backside of the casing that hooks onto a
straight edge of the gutter bracket, fixed in place the same way as the A&E,
bolt through the casing and bracket.  The A&E brackets could be used with
virtually any awning setup that uses the rail system.  BUT, the rail system
will not work with a rod through the hem of a tarp or cloth, not enough
clearance to slide it in with the tarp attached.
