Wifie's 2002 Jetta wagon has had the brake light switch replaced twice. Both times it failed and the auto tranny couldn't be shifted out of park due to an interlock that only opens when the brakes (and brake light switch) are activated. First time we took it to the dealer and a $100 tow charge because the service rep said not to drive it ( I had jumped across the brake switch wires to get it out of park). The second time it failed we ignored the dealer and I replaced it myself. It should be interesting to see how the dealership deals with our expended funds and their obligation in this recall. My daily driver 00 Jetta TDi is included in the recall, too. Not holding my breath. -- Stephen Chillicothe OH |
