The Steyr-Puch Noriker is certainly a cool rig. There was one for sale in Germany last year that went for about 15.000 EUR. Not bad for one of 13 or 15 prototype vehicles ever built. I'd hate to see what it would take to fix some of those drivetrain parts. At least with the LT 4x4 you can get a lot of the stuff in North America as the transfer case is a New Process 208 (Jeep Cherokee has these) and the other parts were all designed with the help of Dana.

As you may know, I just bought a 1992 LT45 DoKa 4x4 and it will be a nice truck for several reasons - the biggest issue that I have is the fact that it has solid axles, stock with the 7.50R16 tires there is 21cm of ground clearance as there is a pair of differentails in the way. I will be installing some 9.00R16 tires on it, but that will still give me less than 30cm of ground clearance. My camper has almost 40cm... I guess that's the trade off in having a truck that could legally carry the weight of my camper in the back of it and seven people in side of it. :-) Yup, a Noriker would be nice. Then again, I am willing to bet that the Noriker is simply an LT with a Turbo Diesel Pinzgauer drive train installed on it - I'd rather a water-cooled Pinz 6x6 than a Noriker! At least that way I wouldn't feel as bad customizing it - the Noriker is so rare that I am sure some purist out there would have an issue or two taking a sawz-all to a vehicle like that.
